Tutorial - Mixing Colors
We recorded this short video during a color mixing demonstration at my recent Charlotte Workshop. I walked my students through mixing several colors, staring with a pile of my mixed black, which is equal parts Burnt Sienna (Winsor Newton) and Ultramarine Blue. This palette of colors was used to create several paintings during the Workshop, and once they come off my dry racks, they will be available in my Studio Shop. Stay tuned!
Charlotte Workshop - Exploring The Surface: Painting The Still Life and Figure
Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of teaching a workshop here in my hometown of Charlotte, NC to a very talented group of students. We held the workshop in the education building at Myers Park Baptist Church, which was a fantastic space to paint in and a great group of people to work with. One of the highlights of the workshop was day two when several students brought in stunning Hydrangeas in a variety of colors from their own gardens to paint from! I truly enjoyed watching everyone get to know each other and become friends as well as turn to one another for advise during the process. I look forward to my next workshop here in Charlotte coming this fall!
Please note that our Atlanta workshop has had a date change and will now be held Oct 24-26, 2016. See all current workshops here.
Beaufort Workshop and Show a Success!
Last week I was in Beaufort, NC at Craving Art Studio teaching a workshop and also leaving a show behind. I had so much fun with Heather Sink, owner of the Studio/Gallery, and all of the new students and friends I met during my visit. The Studio is in a gorgeous restored victorian home. The high ceilings and breath taking natural light were perfect to showcase my work. Heather could not have been more gracious and welcoming, making me feel totally at home in minutes. All of the students were so amazing and became fast new friends. I look forward to returning in Spring 2017 to teach again. Be on the look out - if you are up for a gorgeous town, with really nice people and great food, then Beaufort, NC is for you.
Craving Art Studio Workshop and Show
It was one year ago on when Heather Sink from Craving Art Studio contacted me to discuss coming to Beaufort, NC for a workshop and show. Well the date has finally arrived and I will be packing up to head to Beaufort right after I return from Spring Break. Heather describes the group of students as enthusiastic and eager to learn. I am very excited to meet everyone on March 31st. I feel like I learn as much from my students at workshops as they learn from me. It is so awesome to get to meet a new group of friends with a common interest and to be immersed in the world of art for 3 solid days!! I also look forward to my Show Opening Reception on Saturday night at the Craving Art Studio 6-8 pm. Above is a sneak peak. I will have around 18 new paintings.
Huntsville Museum of Art 2016 Art Auction and Gala
The Huntsville Museum of Art celebrated its 25th Annual Art Auction and Gala with several events March 1-5, 2016. Two of my paintings, Pink Hat and Pink Pop, were included in this prestigious event, which attracts dozens of artists from all over the country. Thank you to Sarah Gessler for inviting me to among this group of elite exhibiting artists.
Happy Anniversary Huff Harrington and Angela Nesbit
It is hard to believe that I have been represented at the fabulous Huff Harrington for a decade. Ten years ago, on a wing and a prayer, I submitted work for review a few months after Ann and Meg opened their doors. I quickly got a phone call and they were over the moon with the way I painted. There was a big BUT and that was my palette. It was two bright and intense. I went back to work and created a grayed down series and we were off.
They have supported me through thick and thin and lots of growth. I have always been proud of the talent that HH represents and the integrity they have maintained in this crazy art world. They always protect their artists and are mindful of work that is authentic and original. Because of this I think I have pushed myself more to be a better artist over the years. I really appreciate all the hard work of everyone at Huff Harrington Fine Art and Huff Harrington Home. I could not have achieved this level of success without you guys. Thank you and I look forward to another ten years!
The Big Bash for the 10th Anniversary is February 27th 6-9 pm at Huff Harrington Fine Art. I sent several new paintings last week so be sure to go by and take a look. Let me know what you think. For more details visit huffharrington.com
Levine Children's Hospital Painting Event
I was so honored to join my friends Sherrard Georgious, Marcy Gregg, Paul Hastings, Adrian Redmond Chu and Christina Dowdy to paint with the patients at the Levine Children's Hospital. The children were such an inspiration to us all. Despite so many challenges they were bright and cheery and eager to paint with us. I was very humbled by how much we all have to be grateful for.
My buddy Caden and I created a gorgeous still life. He directed me on color and did a fantastic job. Anthony and Chad from Binders Art Supplies were there with donated art supplies and lent a big hand in helping all of us. WBTV's Molly Grantham also joined us.
The patient-inspired paintings will be featured at the Levine Children's Hospital Annual Gala at Quail Hollow on April 2nd.
